About this event

A public event to launch the new Stone Centre for the study of Wealth Inequality at LSE.

The growing concentration of wealth in the hands of a small minority poses a significant challenge for governments around the world. This is compounded by the fact that top wealth is concentrated in business assets, with concerns that increasing taxes on wealth and capital will deter the innovation and investment that drive economic growth.

How should policymakers design a tax system that achieves fair and equitable outcomes, without deterring entrepreneurial activity? What do we know about how wealthy business owners respond to tax incentives? And what are the political, legal and economic barriers to reform?

Join Gabriel Zucman (PSE), Helen Miller (IFS), Emma Chamberlain (OBE, Barrister at Pump Court Tax Chambers) and Camille Landais (LSE) to discuss these issues at a public event to launch the new Stone Centre for the Study of Wealth Inequality at LSE.

The new centre, funded by a transformational $5 million gift from the James M and Cathleen D Stone Foundation, will bring together world-leading experts to provide new evidence on the relationship between entrepreneurship and wealth inequality and inform the development of better policy design.
